The racing robots DevBot demonstratively failed the first start of Roborace
The debut of robotic cars, racing drones based on electric vehicles DevBot, was held on February 18 on the track in Buenos Aires. According to the idea, the duo DB1 and DB2 had to pass all the circles side by side, in practice only one device reached the finish line. But their creators are happy – the beginning of a new trend is laid and intrigue is already created.
In late 2015, it was decided to start the Roborace series in the Formula E races of the 2016/17 season. The rules are simple – each of the 10 teams gets the right to include in their squad two autonomous racing electric vehicles. And they will be allowed to ride on the city’s routes all over the world, along with the rest of the participants. For the sake of popularizing the uptrend.
The goal of the Roborace Championship is not in new records, and even more so in the speculation of the possibility of a robot’s victory over a man. This is a chance for engineers and innovative developers to try out new solutions and learn from their mistakes in the real, rather tough conditions of the Formula E races . Plus the opportunity to legally test those know-how, the exploitation of which in an electric car with a live pilot is too risky.
Both devices DevBot were comprehensively tested and prepared for the arrival in Buenos Aires, but on the track for the first time. And triumphantly fucked up, if this expression is appropriate in relation to the soulless machine. DB2 made a “reckless turn” and dropped out of the race halfway. There are no official explanations for the reasons for the accident, only spy photos of the damaged electric vehicle from the arrogant Argentine journalists.
But the DB1 showed a better speed of 186 km / h, which gave food for discussions to fans of electromobile sports. Do not confuse the designers with the design of the robot driving, which is very different from drones flying? In any case, now DevBot – the heroes of photo sessions.
The next race is scheduled for April 1 in Mexico City. The organizers of Roborace hinted that DB2 will be restored and will definitely try to take revenge.
