In the streets of London will appear robots couriers
The robot was developed by the co-founders of Skype Ahti Heinl and Janus Friis. The creators hope that their offspring will be in demand, first of all, in small business for delivery of goods weighing up to 9 kg. By volume, the robocourier is equivalent to two grocery bags.
The robot moves at a speed of 3 km / h on the sidewalk on 6 wheels in an autonomous mode. Thanks to 3G technology, the device has a permanent connection to the Internet, which ensures the arrival at the address specified by the customer. The cargo is delivered from 5 to 30 minutes. According to Keith Cornell, senior adviser to the company Starship, the tests will be held in 14 cities, after which a final decision on the use will be made.
Until the end of the year, developers promise to bring the autonomy of robots to 98%. The work of 100 robot couriers will be monitored by the operator in case of unforeseen problems that they may encounter. In addition, the robot has built-in protection against kidnapping. If someone tries to steal it, he immediately notifies the operator and takes a picture of the attacker.
Control over the movement of customers waiting for delivery of cargo will be carried out using a special application. The total cost of the project is 25 million euros.
